BABY BOIZ RULES v1.0
1/8/26

1. Overview
Baby Boiz is a custom Magic: The Gathering format derived from Canadian Tiny Leaders, designed for fast-paced, low-curve gameplay with flexible deckbuilding and a focus on expressive, often custom, commanders—known as Baby Boiz.
2. Deck Construction
-
Decks must contain exactly 50 cards, including the Baby Boi(z).
-
All cards must have a mana value of 3 or less.
-
For Modal Double-Faced Cards (MDFC), this applies only to the mana value of the front face of the card
-
(Refer to Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules 202.3 for more information on calculating mana value)
-
Decks must follow singleton rules: No more than one copy of any card, except basic lands.
3. The Baby Boi
-
Each deck is led by:
-
One Baby Boi (commander), OR
-
Two Baby Boiz with Partner
-
-
Baby Boiz begin the game in the Boyzone (command zone).
-
Baby Boiz determine the deck’s colour identity, following standard MTG rules.
3.1 Partner Baby Boiz
-
Players may use Partner commanders under the following restriction:
The combined mana value of both Baby Boiz must be 4 or less
-
Legendary creatures without Partner may be used as if they do have Partner if it has been approved by the playgroup prior to use.
-
All other Partner rules function as normal.
3.2 Custom Baby Boiz
-
Custom Baby Boiz are permitted, and encouraged.
-
They must be:
-
Approved by the playgroup prior to use
-
Clearly documented (rules text, mana cost, colour identity)
-
-
The playgroup may maintain an Approved Baby Boi List.
4. Starting the Game
-
Each player starts at 20 life.
-
Each player draws a starting hand of 7 cards.
-
The player who starts the game does not skip their draw step.
5. Mulligans
-
Players may take unlimited free mulligans within 5 minutes of drawing their first hand.
-
Each mulligan:
-
Shuffles the hand into the library
-
Draws a new hand of 7 cards
-
-
No card disadvantage is applied
-
The player who has taken the fewest mulligans may take the first turn
-
If more than one player tie for the fewest mulligans, those players can decide who takes the first turn by any agreed method
-
6. Gameplay Rules
All standard Magic: The Gathering rules apply, except as modified below.
(Refer to Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules)
7. Casting Your Baby Boi
-
Baby Boiz may be cast from the Boyzone.
-
Each time a Baby Boi is cast from the Boyzone, it costs {1} more for each previous time it has been cast from the Boyzone this game. (This replaces the standard +{2} command tax.)
8. The Boyzone
-
The command zone is referred to as the Boyzone.
-
If a Baby Boi would:
-
Be put into a graveyard
-
Be exiled
-
Be put into a hand or library
-
-
Its owner may choose to return it to the Boyzone instead.
9. Win/Lose Conditions
-
A player wins or loses the game by:
-
Any condition described in Section 104 of Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules (excl. Rule 104.3j) , OR
-
Any alternate win condition printed on a pre-agreed custom Baby Boi card
-
-
Commander damage is not used in this format.
10. Banned Cards
-
There is no general banned list carried over from other formats.
-
The only banned cards are:
-
Cards officially banned for real-world harm or offensiveness (see list HERE), AND
-
Cards on the Baby Boiz Banned Card List, AND
-
Cards explicitly banned by the playgroup.
-
-
Players are obliged to reveal all cards in their decks for which the cheapest printing has a current market price of AUD$20 or more (e.g. if a player has a AUD$600 Secret Lair printing of Sol Ring which would otherwise have a market price of AUD$11.50, the player is not obliged to reveal it). The playgroup may agree to ban any or all of the cards revealed this way.
11. Sideboards
-
Sideboards are not permitted.
12. Spirit of the Format
